Black Hair

This is a poem written by the undeniably talented Gene Cole, the Ebony Poet, a friend on one of my internet social networks ...it is posted here for your pleasure with his permission!

Black Hair

Be it curly
Nappy
Dreads
Or a doobie

It exemplifies her sensuality

Be it straight
Cut short or down to her waist
Tied up or natural
Or worn in a Angela Davis Afro

It is a part of her style and culture…

The modification
Of her hair’s beautification
Within her different styles
She builds a foundation

Of a strong black woman…

From the African motherland
The hair design of a black woman
Showed the art and beauty
Of our ancestry

Be it locks
Micro braids or cornrow
Perm or colored
A black woman’s hair flows

Style
Artistry
The definition of her culture
For a black woman’s hair is her creativity

It defines her spirit…
